COMMENTS: | I saw a picture on facebook of an interesting variation on the classic joint puzzle...Peter Wiltshire of Canada had scored it on Ebay. I shot him a message and he was kind enough to lend me the original (shown on a white background below) so I could make some copies. When I got it in my hands, I started thinking about various different locking mechanisms that could be used, and decided to make the original plus two very different variations.
The bubinga variation is a direct copy of the original mechanism...one that most puzzlers are likely familiar with. Not very difficult, but very well implemented with precise geometry and dimensioning. The Walnut variation is an new mechanism that I came up with after playing with the original puzzle. Rather than a slight variation, I took a completely different approach to the solution, resulting in a mechanism that I think will surprise you. The Paduak variation takes the original mechanism and brings it several steps further. It's tricky and confusing, and probably the most difficult variation to solve. This puzzle looks as simple as the original from the outside, but is considerably more complex in construction. This item is sold out and no longer available.
