Four Cubes is Kohno Ichiro's follow-up to the brilliant Three Cubes puzzle. This sequel puzzle features two pairs of identically shaped pieces embedded with magnets similar to Three Cubes. The goal is to combine the elements to create a stable assembly forming four distinct, equal-sized cubes, each connected to the neighboring cube with no more than a half-face. Despite having two possible solutions, Four Cubes is a step up in difficulty. A secondary challenge is possible: find a solution that creates two bars of equal length.
Our work is handcrafted to very precise tolerances and must be kept within the range of 40-60% relative humidity at all times. Failure to do so may cause inoperability or permanent damage.
I've bought all three cubes (three, four and five). Of the three I found this one the hardest (about 30 minutes). three cubes took only seconds but it's a great puzzle to let non puzzlers try. Five cubes is a bit harder, but each part only has two magnets, so the amount of options is limited. Each part of four cubes has 4 magnets, so you don't know which ones to use. It also has multiple stable assemblies creating even more confusion.
If you want a simple puzzle, pick three cubes. If you want a straight forward puzzle with one solution, pick Five cubes. If you want the most difficult one pick four cubes. If you like puzzles, buy all three!
side note: you can also stack the three solutions to create a neat little tower (three at the bottom, five at the top).
All the puzzles I purchased were beautiful, carefully packed and delightfully fun to play with. I particularly loved Topless Box. Extremely clever and devious mechanism.
It seems easy right!? It’s just four cubes….. getting more advanced with puzzles I continue to pick this puzzle up and solve it because it supplies so much creativity with an attainable solution. This will take you longer than you expect but you will enjoy every moment of it.
