Daedalus is a masterpiece of design. Brilliantly creative and brutally difficult to both craft and solve, I've wanted to make this puzzle for a while.
According to Allard Walker:
Daedalus was extremely difficult to craft. The accuracy necessary due level the of interlock is intimidating. Every pin, route and component piece must be spot on for the puzzle to feel correct. I'm happy to report that the extra care we took during manufacturing paid off, and the result is superlative.
73 total copies available for sale, each signed and dated. 7 copies in Jatoba, 34 copies in Rosewood, 10 copies in Figured Chechen, 3 copies in Striped Chechen, and 19 copies in Granadillo were made for this release. This puzzle is shipped assembled.
Great puzzle, great construction!
The first few moves feel like black magic. Stuff moves in unusual ways blocking and unblocking other moves in surprising and interesting ways. The puzzle makes a satisfying "clack-clack" sound and feels great as you move blocks around.
Not an easy puzzle - both the disassembly and subsequent re-assembly are quite a challenge involving unusual and creative moves and a good logical progression. Fun puzzle to fiddle with even after you know the solution!
I got this but didnt know what to expect. The description made it seem cool and interesting. By reputation, I knew it would be quality. So I bought it. Wow. It's great. I haven't solved it yet. But the way this thing works demands more like it. It may be one of my top two favorite wood puzzles.
