|I've long been a fan of Coffin's angled stick puzzles. They're tricky, beautiful when assembled, and unique among interlocking puzzles. The angles are very confusing which leads to a fantastic ah-ha moment!
"Too Hard" is the second and more difficult angled stick offering for this update. Initially, it appears to have the same shape as the Pineapple Pile, but a trick appears when attempting to construct that shape. One of the three longer sticks has the holes drilled in a reversed mirror orientation; thus the solver is forced to find another approach. This puzzle was originally designed as an IPP exchange puzzle but was deemed "too hard", hence the name. It has never been produced before.
Construction of this puzzle is excellent, with a precise fit. The holes are very accurately drilled and located with little tearout; a formidable challenge when working with round stock.

Absolutely love this puzzle. I learned that you can start many different shapes and layers. None of which were correct. I do believe there is only one possible correct solution and that pieces are not interchangeable. It also must be solved in sequence. Then I believe that I solved it purely by luck. I needed some luck though because it’s just “too hard”. Not your standard pile of sticks.
This is truly a great puzzle. The satisfaction of these types of puzzles is really high, and it's a total brain destroyer. Even with using the photo, it's hard to conceptualize and reproduce. But maybe that's just me. This puzzle is truly TOO HARD..... but also TOO AWESOME
Well this is something different for me but a must have. A Stewart Coffin design and a Cubic Dissection precision production. There are other angled stick puzzles out there but this is a new one and it's pretty tough. The wood is lovely and the round shape of the pieces provides something different to think about.
