EDITION: 53 Copies Released
SIZE: 3.7" x 3" x 2"

BonBon packing puzzle by Frederic Boucher is just a ton of fun. The set of five tetrominoes must be fully inserted in the rectangular box, and there is only one particular way to do it. The solution requires over a dozen correct moves and rotations, and must be found by careful analysis rather than random attempts.

Accommodating the unusual cutouts in the box was an exciting design challenge. The acrylic top is held in place with a tricky set of shoulders resulting in a tight fit while retaining a solid exterior presentation.

Our second release of Bonbon was constructed from the same Butternut we used previously. Butternut is usually a very soft wood, but we found an unusually dense billet with some nice figure and curl for this project. The pieces are made from Purpleheart, a dense hardwood. The fit and finish meet our accustomed accuracy, with parts sliding precisely and smoothly.

Here is an excellent blog review of BonBon by Zenpuzzler.

53 copies made for sale, each signed and dated. BonBon is shipped in an unsolved configuration.

Precision wood puzzles can be damaged by environmental changes and must be kept within the range of 40-60% relative humidity at all times. Failure to do so may cause inoperability or permanent damage. Please read the Caring for Wood Puzzles guide to ensure proper fit and operation. We recommend occasional polishing with Renaissance Wax to keep wood puzzles in top condition.

Boucher and Eric are incredible!

What and incredible puzzle. Probably my top 5 packers! The top notch craftsmanship is also what you would expect from CD.

Perfectly clever and satisfying!

I love packing puzzles for their simplicity and satisfaction. This one exceeded my expectations. I fiddled with it for hours, half paying attention while working. I thought that would get it solved and I would put it on a shelf with a satisfied nod. Not to be! I had to give it some focus and then take a few days of picking it up, putting it down, and picking it up again later, to finally make some progress. Trial and error will not do the trick here, it takes some thought and logic to work out the right sequence and moves to solve this beauty. Once I got close, I knew I was on to something and had to really think to get the final moves worked out. When I did, I let out a triumphant roar (I admit, it was surprising to everyone else in the room). Great solution, lots of fun to work towards, and very satisfying to click the last piece in place!!! A solid piece of work, CD, thank you!

Brilliant Puzzle!

I’m really grateful for the re-release of this puzzle, as I’ve regretted passing on the first release, after I’d borrowed and played with a friend’s copy. Definitely a must have and the craftsmanship can’t be beat!
