Partitions is another innovative design by the talented Pit Khiam Goh. Comprised of eight identical interlocking pieces, the goal is to take the puzzle apart and put it back together again. Even though there are only ten moves in the solution, it's trickier than you might expect and plays with assumptions you may have about lattice puzzles.
Made of precision-machined brass with a nice grain imparted by the brushed finish, Partitions has a pleasant weight, and a solid feel when assembled. Equally fun to pick up and play with as it is to solve, it makes a lovely display piece to keep on your desk, so it's always handy for fidgeting.
This puzzle ships assembled. The solution is available upon request.
Handling Metal Puzzles
I generally prefer these puzzles as assembly challenges, with the assumption that it would make it more difficult. But this clever puzzle hides some wonderful tricks to get it apart. It was very satisfying to shift these metal pieces into different configurations that looked impossible to separate! It's a nice size too, I wouldn't want it any bigger or heavier, otherwise playing with it would be a strain.
Great construction and fun little puzzle. Very elegant solution though not particularly difficult.
What's not to love about a beautiful brass puzzle? This is a perfect puzzle to have on a coffee table for anyone passing by. Its simplicity is also what makes it challenging. Can your friends take it apart and put it back together?
